Community Streaming Studio Rentals Fayetteville NC

We provide space and/or equipment for a community digital studio for podcasting, voice work, live sound and music recording, online streaming, film editing, & related creative efforts. The community studio is accessible to artists in the community on a sliding scale, meaning you can pay based on what you can afford, and includes no-cost options in exchange for volunteer support of the studio and local arts organizations, including Sweet Tea Shakespeare.

Theatrical Rentals Fayetteville NC

We rent our Shakespearean playhouse (both the two-story “tiring house” scenic facade and our cockpit seating arena) as well as costumes, props, stage weapons, lighting, and sound equipment. Rentals are especially encouraged for high school and local theatre companies, where we can provide theatrical equipment at a sharply reduced rate and/or with an in-kind exchange.

Our Studio Story

Sweet Tea Shakespeare led local, regional, and national efforts during the height of the pandemic to “pivot” from live, in-person events to digital streaming, podcasts, audio dramas, Zoom performances, and other online programming, garnering significant national attention while working with artists from Cumberland County and the nation, including artists from overseas. Sweet Tea’s digital pivot has been the subject of scholarly work. We’ve seen the impact of this kind of programming in drawing attention to the company, Fayetteville, Cumberland County, and our beloved Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County.

We are excited about this project because it enables STS to facilitate this kind of impact for artists across Fayetteville and Cumberland county whose primary limitation in making an impact is access to equipment at a reasonable cost. We’re delighted to use what we’ve learned during the pandemic to offer training and resources to a wide range of Cumberland county artists, including podcasters, entertainment streamers, singers, musical artists (including electronic music), spoken word artists, documentary film makers, and more.

Encouraged by the response we received to our work, we’re happy to extend an invitation to others to tell their stories in the way we’ve told ours. We particularly encourage young artists to take advantage of the studio equipment as it is to students who may work after school or in extra-curricular initiatives.

Equipment & Fees

Our inventory is always growing, but we have equipment that can cover all your basic streaming, sound, lighting, or production needs on site or on location. Our very affordable are listed below but are available on a sliding scale to artists based on need.

How does the sliding scale work?

A sliding scale allows artists (including high school arts teachers, other theatre and performance companies, individuals, and organizations) to pay what they can based on their resources and needs. For instance, if you’re an artist who cannot afford $30 per hour for our onsite basic streaming package, you could slide your price down to $20 per hour if that’s what you can afford. Or $10 per hour if that’s what you can afford. If you can afford $60, pay $60. The only exceptions: (1) if you require training, the first hour is $30 PLUS your scale, and (2) if you require staffing or operation of any kind, each hour on site is $30 and off-site is $50 minimum.

What happens if I need training or staffing but still can’t afford it?

Here’s where things become awesome. If you cannot afford equipment or staffing costs, we’ll provide both to you for a further reduced rate — including for FREE — in exchange for reasonably equitable, verifiable, pre-approved volunteer work for Sweet Tea Shakespeare or other arts organizations. You could volunteer to become trained on the equipment, to work front of house, to stream or work other events — lots of options. Besides this, we simply ask that you share your work with us so we can share it with the world on our social platforms.

The prices below are “retail” or “average” for us — and far below what you’ll find elsewhere, and should give you a benchmark for your pricing on a sliding scale.

TRUCK RENTAL

Box Truck Rental Fayetteville NC

We have a small box truck suitable for local moves. It is very well worn, with most of its dash functions out completely and no A/C. But the truck itself does the trick for short-haul use, from cross-town moving needs for families to set and equipment moving, and more.

Truck rental is $30 per day, plus used fuel and a $100 refundable security deposit. Also available on a sliding scale.

Playhouse Rentals: Tiring House & Cockpit

We rent our playhouse facade (known as the “Tiring House”) for $250 per day if you and your team help us set up and take down the structure, or $400 per day including transport and setup. A $400 refundable security and damage deposit is required, but may be waived for high school drama programs, 501c3 charitable organizations, or independent artists. Also available on a sliding scale.

Our Cockpit arena (“Cockpit”) is available for rent for $500 a day, plus a $500 setup and take down fee, and a $250 refundable security deposit. Also available on a sliding scale.

We’re a theatre company with tons of stuff. An example list is below, but always feel free to ask if something is not listed. Rental fees are customized based on length and nature of use. There’s usually a modest, refundable security deposit, a late fee, and an expectation that items like costumes and weapons come back clean, maintained, and in their original condition. Alterations to costumes are not allowed except by permission. This includes temporary alterations.
