The place for classical theatre and Shakespeare events in Raleigh
With a decidedly un-classical approach.
Shakespeare in Raleigh
Our live events in Raleigh activate a community committed to Shakespeare and classical theatre with a focus on text-forward performances encased in music, hospitality, and heart.
Sweet Tea Shakespeare shows are decidedly different. We approach the work -- William Shakespeare and well beyond -- in a way that seeks to remind ourselves and our audiences of what it means to be fully human. Coming to a Sweet Tea Shakespeare show is a bit like coming to a party where a play breaks out, or a ballgame. Our shows feel like an event, not just a play. Grab a snack and a drink during our live music preshows and enjoy them -- without judgment -- throughout the show. Snag some special seating in our special seating upgrade auction. Flag down a swag-monger like you would at the stadium.
Why do we do this?
Taking our cue from the things that made Shakespeare, well, Shakespeare, we seek a return to the spirit of theatre that includes fellowship, engagement, and interaction. And we do it (frequently) without the stuffy expectations often laid on from those sometimes-dreadful high school Shakespeare experiences. You'll see very few ruffs. No "this is very important work" approaches.
We believe plays are meant to be play. And we invite you to play with us.

Ready to join the party?
We work to make great plays for all the communities in our area. From Raleigh to Apex, from Durham to Holly Springs, from Garner to Chapel Hill -- and beyond. We bring the heart of Shakespeare and the beat of music to the heartbeat of North Carolina. We'd love you to join us.
